Herbal treatment for cats is gaining popularity because it allows responsible cat owners to treat a range of health complaints at home. You can give your cat a specially prepared supplement remedy for a specific condition without needing to visit the vet.

>> Heal your sick pet at home without going to the vet. Click here

This is better for your cat as it allows you to keep them in fine health for longer without needing to resort to medication drugs or toxic chemicals. And as an added bonus it saves you money in the long run as you only need to pay vet bills in the case of an emergency.

Let’s take a look at the different types of herbal treatment for cats. These split into three main areas: treatment for acute conditions, chronic conditions and general health supplements.

Acute conditions are those that come on suddenly and require immediate treatment. If your cat has had a serious injury you should not try to treat this at home. Go to the vet immediately. But there are a number of acute conditions that you can treat at home. Diarrhea, small cuts and scratches, ear infections and travel sickness are all acute conditions that benefit from herbal treatment for cats.

Chronic conditions cover those that are more long term illnesses. Again, serious conditions like cancer need veterinary treatment. But even with cancer, there is a lot that you can do with herbal treatments to help to sustain your cats immune system and organs. Other chronic conditions that are excellent candidates for herbal treatment for cats are stress, anxiety, sadness, aggression and weight management.

Finally, general health supplements can be given to cats to help keep them healthy. Any holistic healthcare program for your cat must look at prevention as well as cure. You can help to boost your cats immune system and energy levels. You can also keep their fur and skin in top condition and free from fleas, mites and ticks.

Herbal treatment for cats offers you plenty of opportunity to keep your cat in prime condition. Help them to live a long, happy and healthy life.

You can treat many common cat conditions with herbal treatment for cats. We’ll show you how at herbapet.

Herbal treatment for dogs

Dogs are one of man’s best loved pets and loyal companions. Dog owners tend to love their pets so much that it becomes very disheartening when their beloved dog starts to show signs of being ill. Though he does not like his dog falling sick, he cannot often do much to prevent it happening. You can’t prevent your dog from falling sick through outside environmental factors beyond your control. It is a good idea for pet owners to familiarize themselves with the most common pet diseases so that they can be ready to deal with them when they occur and know how best to respond. There are several herbal medicines that offer an effective treatment for animal diseases and don’t have a problem with side effects.

Most pet ailments are caused by intestinal parasites which enter into the system as a result of contact with contamination such as through infected animals or food. One of the intestinal parasite culprits is Coccidia which causes diarrhea and can even threaten thedog’s life. Heartworm and Tapeworm can also lead to pain, discomfort and sometimes death. Herbal remedies for these conditions are a recommended way of treating these diseases. They do not cause any side effects and are totally safe for your pet

Herbal treatment for dogs especially for the digestive system is a good way of ensuring overall good health. Dogs need a good, natural healthy diet, hygienic sanitation and a safe and reliable treatment when diseases happen. Though, the veterinary medicines available in the market can offer sustainable health, it is best to take veterinary advice before buying. Risking your dogs health by such drugs is not recommended as it can result in unpleasant and possibly serious side effects. Herbs used by holistic professionals in the treatment of dog diseases ensure the wellness of the dog as well.

The herb, Worm wood (Artemisia Absinthinium) is used for cleaning the blood and the digestive tract. Clove is also a popular herb used as a detoxifying agent and to cleanse the system. The herb, Grace is injected to protect the pets from parasites.

Herbal medicines are considered safe as they improve both the digestive functions as well as at the same time sustaining a good balance of flora in the intestines. Herbal treatment for pet are perfectly integrated and formulated such that they help to eradicate parasites and also promote the digestive system.

In contrast, administering antibiotics poses a greater risk in the long term. For example, the sulfa drug is a common drug for eliminating parasites, but it can be harmful to pregnant pets and actually result in birth defects.

Hi, I need to lower the amount of insulin I give to my diabetic dog, as her paws are cracking. I can only imagine what else is going on inside.

I have recently had people contact me that have been using alternative health care products and a proper diet for themselves and their family for quite some time but were just not aware that natural remedies could be used on their pets.

How about the use of glucosamine for treating dog arthritic joint pain .

In 1999, glucosamine was the top-selling dietary supplement in the United States, with annual sales of US $288 million. It has become an immensely popular dietary supplement around the world.

It has proven itself again and again though its potential for repairing damaged joints and slowing the progression of arthritis.

Since glucosamine works so well for human arthritis, it is natural to ask: ‘What about dog arthritis?’ Is it safe? Is it effective?

The answer: Yes, it appears to be both safe and effective.

The main safety concern comes from animal studies in which large amounts of glucosamine were given to rats and other animals intravenously, for short periods of time. Under these extreme and usual conditions, glucosamine tended to decrease insulin levels and/or induce insulin resistance. When researchers tested humans with large amounts of intravenous glucosamine, the same thing happened. Hence a concern arose that glucosamine could cause diabetes or make diabetes worse.

Normal therapeutic doses of glucosamine given orally have never been shown to have an adverse effect on insulin levels, insulin resistance or blood sugar levels. Even in diabetic rats and type 2 diabetic humans, normal therapeutic doses of glucosamine taken orally have been shown to have no significant effect on insulin, insulin resistance or blood sugar levels.

Cosequin is the brand name of a glucosamine and chondroitin formulation made to treat dog arthritis, cat arthritis and horse arthritis. It is taken orally and appears to have an excellent safety record.

Cosequin has been seen to have an excellent safety profile. In safety studies, Cosequin given at twice label recommended levels for 30 days in healthy dogs had no adverse effects on blood sugar levels. No clinically significant effects were seen on any biochemical parameter in these studies.

Although no change in blood sugar control would be expected for a diabetic dog, as with the addition of anything new to a diabetic’s regimen, it is advisable to monitor closely.

Unfortunately stoutness is an obstacle with pets too. This increased stress and fat often makes it difficult to run and play. Overweight pets : Dogs like humans are more vulnerable to vomiting, diarrhea and diseases such as arthritis. For example, when a dog is overweight stress is put on their legs and hips. Carrying around too many mega pounds takes a toll on pets. The sad thing about this is that pets aren’t capable of putting themselves on a diet. It’s up to the owners to examine and manage their pet’s condition. If pets become overweight, owners must learn techniques to cope with with their overweight pets.

One key aspect of any pet cat dieting regime applies. So many pets spend most of their lives indoors. Dogs will be put out to do their business while many cats are litter qualified. These dogs are doubtless only given the length of their leash and cats aren’t even receiving that. Activity is important for all pets. It’s critical to take overweight pets out for a regular stroll. If living in an area where walking pets seems virtually impossible, there are parks intended especially for pets. Owners can take their pets, especially dogs to a square and let them run around without a leash, allowing them to burn off unnecessary calories and fat. Exercise will not only help in your pet’s weight issue department but also helps with digestion, keeps their muscles toned, keeps joints well and elastic, helps with ther oxygen stream to all the body cells, helps the circulatory system and respiratory function and of course allows them to get rid of any excess energy they may have built up, ultimately making them more manageable.

All of these are basic needs that constitute essential care for a healthy pet

Pet owners adore treating their pets. Unfortunately treats can basically trigger more stress and problems. Many pet treats are crammed with calories or too much salt or sugar. Although it’s nice to treat your pets, you aren’t serving them by allowing them to overindulge on treats. Treats shouldn’t make up any more than ten percent of your pet’s daily intake. It’s imperative, especially when dealing with overweight pets to give only calorie-prudent treats. Remember your dog or cat cannot make this choice for itself and is depending on you to help them with healthy choices.

As with dogs, cat health tips can be accessed by reading appropriate books on the subject.

When looking for techniques to deal with overweight pets, choosing the right pet food is very important. Pets need different types and amounts of food in the numerous stages of their lives. Young pets, puppies and kittens should not be ingesting food recommended for older pets. The same advice applies to the total of food and calories vital for pets health. It is the vendor’s responsibility to guage the needs of pets and that they are receiving the food they should and the quantity they require. With overweight pets it is perhaps more important to pay thought to the food and amounts they are taking in. When there are overweight pets in the house it’s not a wise idea to keep the pet bowl crammed with food. Many pets will eat as long as the bowl is still full. Instead it is best to monitor what overweight pets eat and owners should only give food as a set meal. This is very important when there is more than one pet in the home to make certain the overweight pet is eating and drinking only what they need.

Besides the most palpable reasons for overweight pets and over-eating, there are other factors that can contribute to pet heaviness. Some pets have medicinal conditions which may play a role in their weight gain. For this reason it is important to have pets examined regularly. In the defense of an overweight pet, before creating any healthy weright programs, the pet owner should consult with the veterinarian.

You’d like to have your pets around for a long time. Unfortunately overweight dogs run the risk of being overcome by many poor health conditions such as center disease, high blood pressure, breathing troubles, decreased liver operation, digestive disorders, immune deficiency diseases and other serious health problems. Of course the extra feeding can contribute to dog arthritis. It also contributes to problems with a pet’s skin and coat . There are so many things that can go wrong for an overweight pet. They deserve so much more. Because it’s ultimately the pet owner’s responsibility to make sure their pets are suitably cared for, issues with overweight pets are an indication of the owner’s carelessness. That may sound harsh but it’s a truth.

If you have an overweight pet, it’s imperative to obtain techniques to address the problem before it causes otherwise avoidable issues. If unsure where to begin in dealing with overweight pets perhaps you should consult with a pet professional who can notify you regarding the best course of action. The Internet is a great well of information on pets and pet nurture. Browsing the many pet-connected websites will clearly offer methods and techniques for dealing with overweight pets.

As in the case of Osteoarthritis the pain is severe and your cat will need some relief from the pain. If your cat is overweight the pain can even be more severe. Talk with your veterinarian if you do believe that your cat does have a type of cat arthritis. Your cat will enjoy life more and be able to chase those mice again if treatment is regular.
There are a number of different factors that can cause a dog to become overweight. Overindulgence on the part of the owner plays a large part in pet obesity. And this article discusses about how to help your dog lose weight; read on and learn … Feline Diabetes Mellitus. Diabetes mellitus, also known as sugar diabetes is a complex but common disease in which a cat’s body either doesn’t produce, or doesn’t properly use insulin.

It is a fact that about 50% of US cats are overweight. Fat cats may seem funny as in this video but it’s really not at all healthy. So how can you tell if your cat weighs too much? Just as with dogs, run your hands over their ribs.

Deficiencies also result from disease where certain enzyme functions are deficient; or by the use of fat-restricted diets in overweight dogs. But, fat is needed for energy and to satiate the dog’s appetite.

Pets are very important members of a family. They are superb companions for their owners whom they unconditionally adore. A cat or a dog can definitely be counted on for comfort in lonely times. They are very loyal and generous with their affection. All they ask in return is a snug place to doze, a bowl of water and nutritious food .

Considering all they give to their owners, these requests could be seen as relatively small in comparison. Although, providing food and shelter for pets may not seem to be that much of a big deal, it is important they are provided with their basic needs.

There are many kinds of pet food on sale nowadays. When shopping for pet food an individual will find all sorts of well-known brand names as well as no name brands. Whether you buy trade from a pet save, or veterinarian there are elite, high vitamin content diets available. It’s very important to know what you are feeding your pets. Some pet foods may taste great to your cat or dog but include very little nutrients. Just as humans need vital nutrients and vitamins to sustain a well body, pets need these basic ingredents also.

Many pets are fed from the family kitchen table. Owners may imagine that feeding their pets left-over food provides them with prime nutrition. This is not necessarily the case. After all, not all humans are in the regular practice of maintaining wholesome diets for themselves. Sure pets adore receiving scraps and are not prone to turn them down but are they actually benefitting from them or being hurt by them?

Vitamins are a very important part of a pet’s diet. At the time that pet food is made or processed there are vitamins and preserativess added. However through the processing stages many of these lose their nutritive value. When pet food is exposed to light and air, for example, many of the nutrients are diluted down and then the pet ends up not receiving the recommended amounts. This is where multivitamin supplements come into the picture. Multivitamins are important for your pets. Because many of the desired nutrients are not included in pet food or lost before the pet ever gets them, multivitamin supplements are a superb way to assure pets recieve the recommended quantity. Just as there are multivitamin supplements for humans, there are multivitamin supplements for pets.

Why are multivitamins so important for your pets? As with humans, pets are subject to vomiting and disease. A personal diet, containing the necessary vitamins and minerals help to make sure a pet is well guarded against the many common universal diseases seen in pets. Multivitamins are able to boost your pet’s immune system, preparing them to fight off ticks, fleas, mites and disease. Multivitamins are important for your pet’s spirit and vigor and to protect their gums and teeth. As pets age these issues become more and more important and so multivitamins are definitely recommended for aging pets.

A development that tends to distress pets and pet owners alike, especially as pets age is bone and dual disease. Often termed arthritis, there are numerous types of bone disease seen in these pets which attackl different areas of their bodies. Pets, unlike humans are powerless verbally to express their stress and anguish. They may be mutely miserable with excruciating pain, nameless to their owners. With time this problem will become visible in the way the pet walks and moves around. Multivitamins can help pets maintain healthy joints and bones and so they are less likely to develop painful and distressing conditions. A pet requires certain minerals and vitamins to continued vitality and bone strength. Because owners aren’t certain they are receiving these necessities in their pet food, multivitamin supplements are important.

Now that you know multivitamins are important for your pets, which supplements should you give them and where do you buy them? Perhaps the best idea is to ask for recommendations for your pet from the physician, the veterinarian. Through normal examinations your pet’s vet will spot any abnormalities that might perhaps be helped. If your pet is showing signs of a deterioration of fitness in their joints and/or bones, the vet will know what they need to counter this. Proper multivitamins can help your pet’s joints and bones and support them in living a longer and more enjoyable life.

The Internet is a great resource for information about the importance of multivitamins for your pets. There are countless websites which are committed to pets and their wellness. These sites present beneficial details about the value of explicit vitamins and minerals for your pet’s health. Researching and learning all you can about what your pet requirs will help you ensure they stay around for a long time. Just as there are many types of pet foods advertised, there are many kinds of multivitamins on the market for your pets. Not all pets need the same dosages of multivitamins so it’s imperative to learn what your particular pet’s needs are before adding them to your pet’s daily regime. Your pets love you. Return that feeling by providing them with multivitamins for a long and happy life.

Cat urinary problems or infections are quite common in cats and it would be advisable to be aware of this painful condition and of what needs to be done to alleviate it.

Are you sick and tired of dealing with feline bladder infections? You’re not alone. Cat urinary problems are probably the most common reason for a vet visit. In this article, we’ll take a look at how your vet treats a cat bladder infection, and what you can do at home.

Cat Bladder Infection Treatments

Your vet may want to do a urinalysis to check your cat’s urine for the presence of bacteria blood white blood cells or crystals.

White blood cells indicate an infection, while crystals can show that bladder stones are forming. If your vet suspects bladder stones, x-rays or an ultrasound may be the next step.

Most bladder infections are treated with antibiotics. If your cat suffers from frequent feline bladder infections, your vet will want to do a urine culture to try to identify the bacteria involved. This will help to determine the best antibiotic to use.

If your cat has a bladder infection, it’s very important to treat it. If you don’t, it can progress to a feline kidney infection, cat bladder stones, or other cat urinary problems.

Home Treatments For Bladder Infections In Cats

Diet is very important for cats with urinary problems. If your cat eats only dry food, you probably don’t realize that chances are good that he’s chronically dehydrated. A dehydrated cat has very concentrated urine, a common cause of cat bladder stones or a cat bladder infection.

Some cats don’t drink enough water either. This is because cats in the wild get most of their water from their prey, so they don’t have to drink a lot of water. However this leads to big problems when cats are fed only dry food.

What can you do? The best answer is to feed your cat a good-quality canned food. Canned food has a moisture level similar to a cat’s natural diet in the wild.

Be sure that your cat always has access to clean, fresh water. You wouldn’t want to drink water that’s old and has stuff floating in it, and your cat won’t either.

Cranberry juice is an old remedy for preventing bladder infections in people. However, most cats won’t drink it. You can find cranberry capsules at the drugstore. If you’re good at giving your cat pills, this can be an effective way to prevent and treat bladder infections in cats. But if you’re like most cat owners, poking a pill down your cat’s throat is not high on your list of fun things to do.

Treat Cat Urinary Problems With Natural Remedies For Pets

Over the centuries, people have learned by trial and error which plants can help heal different health conditions. Uva ursi and barberry are two herbal remedies for human urinary tract problems that have stood the test of time.

Homeopathic treatments for people with bladder problems are also safe and effective. Cantharis and Staphysagris are proven natural remedies to support bladder health.

The question is, how to use these natural remedies on your cat. It’s very important to find a product that’s specially formulated for pets, not people, so it’s safe for your kitty. And of course, it has to be easy to give to your feline friend, or you won’t use it for long.

Take charge of your cat’s health by finding a product that’s effective and easy to use, and so safe that you can give it to your cat every day. This is the easiest way to prevent feline bladder infections.

Your pet is an important member of your family. Keeping him or her healthy will give them a longer life, and you and your family more time to enjoy their loyal companionship. Pets have health care needs that are in many ways much like that of humans. They are also vulnerable to diseases that only animals can be stricken with and adequate preventative care for pets is essential for helping them avoid these.

Most likely, you already know from taking your pets to the vet that they need yearly inoculations to protect them from rabies, distemper, and other common animal diseases They also need to be tested for heartworm once a year and to be placed on heartworm prevention medicine such as that made by Heartguard and Interceptor, for example. There are other tests your veterinarian may choose to give your pet to identify any potential health problems that exist. When health problems are found, your veterinarian can recommend certain pet medicines for treating your pet and restoring their health. Flea and tick medicines are commonly used by pet owners to help keep their pets and homes free from these disease-carrying pests. These are available in prescription and nonprescription formulas. For tested effectiveness and for the safety of your pet, however, it might be wiser to choose prescription flea and tick medicines to treat your pet with.

Many preventative care for pets can be used as preventatives to ward off the development of health problems in your pets. Boosting your pet’s immune system and helping body organs to function correctly will strengthen your pet’s health and prolong their life. Pets can fall prey to many human aliments like bladder infections, gastro-intestinal disturbances, kidney stones, liver deficiencies, allergies, lung and breathing disorders, muscle and joint weakness, osteoarthritis, and much more. Antibiotics, anti-fungals, and other prescription medicines are given to lessen symptoms for pets suffering from these health issues, and also as a way of preventing pets from getting sick in the first place.

Some pets have the nasty and seriously harmful habit of eating their own waste or the waste of other animals. Animal waste can harbor bacteria and diseases that are very harmful to your pets. Using a pet medicine such as Forbid and similar products to discourage pets from eating waste will help keep them from engaging in this unhealthy activity. Other pets have a habit of licking themselves incessantly. Stress, anxiety, boredom, and learned behavior are some of the reasons pets do this. This can lead to loss of fur and skin irritations. A pet medicine that has an unpleasant taste or odor is often successful in teaching pets not to lick themselves excessively.

Nutrition is just as important for pets as it is for humans. Like humans, pets need to get proper neutrition for strong health. You might find it surprising to learn that the commercial food you are feeding your pet may not be giving them all the nutrition they need . The package says it provides complete nutrition for your pet; however, manufactured pet foods do not contain all of the nutrients your pet would get from a ‘wild’ diet derived from plant and animal sources. The solution to helping your pet stay strong and healthy as a domesticated member of your family is to supplement their diet of pet foods with nutritional pet medicines. These are often called health or nutritional supplements. Vitamin and mineral supplements such as fatty acids, omega3, vitamin E, and other nutritional supplements can bolster your pet’s diet, giving them the nutrients they need to maintain strong health.

Did you know that regularly bathing and grooming your pet is an important part of helping them to stay strong and healthy? Shampoos made especially for dogs and cats help wash bacteria, debris, and insects from your pet’s body. Regular washing of your pet may also reveal skin irritations that might otherwise remain hidden under a thick coat of fur. Pet medicated shampoos that also contain lotions, can help alleviate dry skin conditions on your pet and restore skin health for your pet. Brushing your pet’s fur keeps it from matting, which can trap dirt and pests in the fur and make your pet uncomfortable. There are brushes and combs made especially for use on dogs or cats. De-shedders keep both you and your pets happy. They like the pleasurable sensations caused by the brushing, your pets coat will be really shiny and you will like not having stray fur all over the place. Trimming your pet’s nails is also important for their health and not just for saving your floors and furniture from scratches. Untrimmed pet nails can grow inwards and penetrate your pet’s paws. This can be very painful, encourages the growth of bacteria, and can even limit your pet’s mobility. There are several popular pet nail trimmers that make trimming your pet’s nails easy on you and them.

The best way to keep your pet strong and healthy is vigilance on your part to make sure that you have provided them with all the veterinary, nutritional, and preventative health care possible. You love your pet; help them stay strong and healthy for a long, happy life as a member of your family.

If Dogs are man’s best friend, Felines are female’s favored friend! Sure men own cats, too, but that is not the point here.

Cat diarrhea (and vomiting) is so common, many say it is epidemic. Why?

Domesticating Cats is Behavioral. Domesticating their diet is…

(To fully grasp the following information, it is important to note that decades of dependency on chemicals and inorganic fertilizers have not only destroyed the top soil (and the subsequent nutritional value of commercial fruits and vegetables), they have seeped into rivers, streams, and found they way into the water table we drink and bathe with. Water puddles likely contain bacteria, discarded food residue, disease carrying bug larvae, as well as human and animal spittle containing any number of pathogenic organisms…)

Feral and outdoor cats hunt small animals and birds. Unfortunately, the ones they’ve been eating over the last 50 years are increasingly diseased, and weakened from various environmental stresses. This seems to make an argument for commercial pet foods, however many pets refuse to eat it. The problem is so common that many manufacturers have resorted to spraying recycled restaurant grease on dry foods, just to add some ‘flavor’!

The ongoing dog food/dog treat recall has provided some insight into what is in dry foods, as well as how pet food manufacturers think. They say they added more wheat gluten because it is a source of protein- only it’s not a protein that cats or dogs need, but it is profitable.

Find recommended pet food information for dogs here and for cats here

Wet pet foods are not any better! They contain heavily processed low quality overcooked meats from animals injected with growth hormones and antibiotics.

Commercial pet foods are both convenient and cheap. But what is the ultimate cost to your pet’s health and your wallet?

Pet Diarrhea and Vomiting is the Number 3 Reason People Take Their Animals to the Vet

Today, a virtual epidemic of GI related health issues ranging from eating disorders, vomiting, loose stools, diarrhea, IBS, spastic colon, to constipation can be traced directly to commercial cat food! According to industry statistics, diarrhea is the number 3 reason people are taking their animals to the vet.

Stress is another cause of diarrhea. Cats prefer peace and quiet to loud noises. Travel also stresses cats, as it often means leaving familiar territory, beyond which are unfamiliar noises and smells, different air quality, humidity, water, possibly even food- any one of which can throw off your cats’ now delicate GI balance.

Veterinary ‘Care’

If you take kitty to a vet, rarely do you have any idea why it has diarrhea. To assure speedy results, they are likely to prescribe an antibiotic with broad-spectrum kill capabilities, and advise you to withhold food or water for 24-48 hours. This is a case where the remedy needs a remedy!

Antibiotics kill all the bacteria- including the ones your cat needs for digestion. One thing you can be sure of, between no food and water, and the side effects of toxic antibiotics ravaging their immune systems, kitty is going to be in for a very rough couple of days. So if not antibiotics, what then? Non-dairy Probiotics!

Cats supplement their diet by eating grass, and especially the soil around the grass roots, which once contained soil-based organisms (SBOs)- non-dairy probiotics.

SBOs are ‘The Missing Link’ to restoring and maintaining GI health. Without a daily supply of SBOs, to help break foods down so they are can be absorbed proper digestion and elimination cannot take place. Foul smelling gas is an early warning sign.

SBOs are highly effective when the diarrhea or vomiting is routine. However, if intestinal inflammation is present, neither SBOs nor medications are likely to restore balance. It is vital to resolve inflammation first!

Herbal anti-inflammatories are more effective than steroids to resolve inflammation, but unlike steroids, they do not require weaning off. Unresolved intestinal inflammation quickly leads to immune disorders/diseases.

Have you noticed that the ‘slippery slope’ to poor health begins with the GI tract? According to The Royal Society of Medicine Great Britain, ‘Fully 90% of all chronic disease is caused by an unhealthy intestinal system’.

By administering SBOs as a daily supplement, you can prevent most cases of routine diarrhea while preventing 90% of all chronic disease from getting a foothold.

The food you feed your pets needs to be reasonably close to what they once ate in the wild; that is if you expect them to stay healthy. Buy organic chicken, meats, and fish, very lightly saut them and mix 50/50 with pet foods they are eating. Mix with less pet food each day. After one week they should be on 100% sauted food. Next, do the same with raw meats.

Unless your cat/dog is extremely sick, you should see immediate signs of recovery.

Is your dog showing signs of urinary incontinence? You may be finding puddles of urine around the house. You notice that your old friend is dribbling urine and doesn’t seem to be able to control it. You know when he’s around because you can smell him.

Many dog owners don’t realize that urinary incontinence in dogs is usually not difficult to treat. If your dog is showing signs of this problem, you need to take him to the vet for a check-up.

What Are The Causes of Urinary Incontinence In Dogs?
Bladder infections. Drinking too much water. Weak bladder sphincter

Bladder Infections In Dogs

Female dogs are much more likely to develop bladder infections than males. This is because the urethra is shorter and broader in females, which allows bacteria easier access to the urinary tract.

Your vet may want to do a urine culture to determine exactly what is causing the infection. Most bladder infections in dogs are caused by E. coli or staph, although some may be cause by a fungal infection. This will help your vet to decide which antibiotic to treat your dog with.

If a bladder infection is the cause of incontinence in your dog, you’ll see an end to the problem very quickly, as the infection is cleared up. However, you need to be sure to give your dog the full antibiotic course to keep the infection from coming back.

Drinking Too Much Water

This may sound a bit silly, but drinking too much water can definitely cause your dog to have trouble controlling his bladder. He just can’t hold it long enough to get outside.

Why would a dog drink too much water? There can be several reasons:

Diabetes. Cushing’s Syndrome. Kidney failure

If you notice that your dog is drinking excessive amounts of water, it’s important to take your dog for a vet check-up to check for these conditions.

Weak Bladder Sphincter

This sometimes happens as your dog gets older. The muscles in the sphincter don’t tighten and close as well as they did when your dog was younger, which leads to urine dribbling. If your dog is overweight, this can compound the problem.

Your vet may treat this condition with hormone therapy. Male dogs are given testosterone, while females receive estrogen. Another treatment is a drug that stimulates the nerves in the sphincter muscles. These two treatments can be given together, if necessary.

Do natural pet remedies For Incontinence In Dogs Work?

Conventional medicine treats just the symptoms, not the root cause of the problem. Holistic medicine, on the other hand, starts with the idea that your pet naturally maintains a balance in his body that protects him from disease, as well as helping him to heal himself. If this balance is upset, your dog gets sick.

Holistic medicine looks at your dog as a whole, not as a urinary tract, or a digestive system, or a nervous system. Natural remedies work by stimulating your pet’s immune system so he’s able to fight off infections better. Specific herbs and homeopathic remedies work to correct underlying problems and not just treat the symptoms.

Here’s some food for thought. People are becoming more careful about the drugs they take, and it’s to be expected that they’ll take extra care with pets, too. Herbal and homeopathic remedies for urinary incontinence in dogs are safe and effective, with no risk of side effects. They’re also inexpensive and readily available.

Now that you know this, you’ll want to learn more about how natural remedies for incontinence in dogs can solve your dog’s bladder problems.
