If you have never owned a puppy before, you might be feeling a little overwhelmed with the sudden responsibility of caring for the wellbeing of your new pal. In this article you will learn about the basic health responsibilities you should attend to and how you can go about doing so.

Your puppy’s diet is first on our list. Puppies are on their mother’s milk until they are about six to eight weeks old. This weaning age is usually when breeders allow the puppies to be taken home by their new owner. Ask your breeder what the pup is currently eating and continue to feed him that. Usually they will be eating a soft canned food mixed with puppy milk replacer. Use less and less milk until your puppy is on pure canned food. You can do the same when switching to dry food by mixing in a little soft food and then cutting back a little each day until the puppy is on dry food only. Dry food is recommended as the best type of food for dogs as it has less fat content and keeps your dog’s teeth strong and free of plaque build up. This should happen gradually over the course of about 7 – 10 days. You should never feed your dog human food (ie: table scraps) at any time during his life. A dog’s diet requires a specific balance of certain nutrients and feeding your dog table scraps will upset this balance. Also remember to keep a water bowl filled for your pup at all times.

The next item on the list is vaccinations. If your dog’s breeder hasn’t taken care of the vaccinations, then it’s up to you to see that your dog gets immunized. There are three separate shots given to cover the “core” illnesses, which are: distemper, parvovirus, and hepatitis. The first shot is usually given at 6 weeks of age with the other shots following in three week intervals at 9 and 12 weeks. Your veterinarian will be able to take care of the vaccinations for you, as well as recommend any non-core vaccines that they feel your dog should have. The importance of non-core vaccines differs depending on your dog’s breed and where you live. You will need to return to the vet every year of your dog’s life for an adult “booster” shot. You should be aware that social interaction with other dogs is not recommended until after your puppy has completed his round of vaccinations, with an additional 5 – 10 days for the immunization to become effective.

Grooming is another important aspect of owning a puppy. Some dogs have stricter grooming requirements than others, particularly ones with long or curly fur. Certain breeds of dog are particularly susceptible to ear infections and require that their ears be cleaned frequently. All dogs should have their nails clipped periodically (usually when you hear their paws click on the floor you know it’s time for a trim!). It’s very important that this is done in the correct fashion using proper canine nail clippers, as cutting to deeply in your dog’s claws can result in severe pain and bleeding.

Last but not least is exercise. Puppies are energetic by nature and need an outlet. Take extra care to spend time playing with your pup and make sure he gets plenty of time outdoors (other than trips to relieve himself!). Boredom can often result in excessive chewing as well as destructive behaviour, so the more time you dedicate to wearing out your spirited companion, the happier he will be! A great exercise trick is to buy dog steps and teach your dog fun games that incorporate running up and down the stairs. Pet stairs are also handy to have around if you allow your dog on the couch or bed so he doesn’t have to jump to and from the furniture.

Some basic dog training may be needed for dogs with separation anxiety. It is a fairly common problem but not always recognized for what it is.

Basic Dog Training Guide — Here

Most dogs develop a deep and loving bond with their owners, so it makes sense that they would miss you when you’re gone, however there is a difference between this natural and healthy emotion and a much deeper problem. If your dog tries to dig out of your house when you are gone or is exhibiting severe issues about you not being around, he may be suffering from separation anxiety.

Doggy Separation Anxiety

Visit Dog Food for Life — Here

In the way that a child can become severely stressed when their parents aren’t around, a dog can also exhibit extreme behavior during separation, usually due to a life change or a past traumatic incident. We’re going to give a few examples of situations that could lead a dog to develop an unhealthy neediness to be with their owners at all times.

A year ago, Roscoe was an abandoned puppy scared and lonely when his owner found him. He now lives a happy life with a very caring and loving owner. One would think that Roscoe s story is one with a simple, happy ending until Roscoe s owner leaves the house. Suddenly, the neighbors are complaining that Roscoe barks too much, and his owner often comes home to find furniture chewed, trash bins overturned, and scratch-marks on the door.

A dog can be trained out of this with the proper dog training and a litle patience

This is a very common case with animals with a past that includes abandonment. Although a rescued dog can live a happy life and be a great pet, they can still retain issues of feeling as though they will be abandoned again every time their owner leaves the house.

Max is usually a very good dog and rarely creates a fuss. He became a member of the family when his mom was pregnant. He was used to dad being gone at work most of the day, but was content to man the fort until dad got home to play. This had been the routine for about a year now. Then suddenly, mom starts disappearing during the day as well, and Max is scared and stressed at being left by himself all day.

Life changes can have a huge affect on a pet. This can be a number of things, such as the death of another pet or family member, changes in your work schedule (or the amount of time you re with your pet decreases), or moving frequently.

There are ways to treat this, but nothing will work instantaneously. These are psychological issues that take time to overcome. For tips on handling doggy separation anxiety, read the Dog Food for Life eBook. You can also read their free Confidential Dog Food Report, which explains the harmful ingredients that are found in many name-brand dog foods, as well as the brands of food you should avoid or pursue.

This apparently is the number one cause for puppies being taken to dog rescue charities. It is often difficult and often professional dog walkers such as London Dog Walking are often asked to help, so a key part of puppy care. The general consensus as to the best way to toilet train is to use a crate. Normally a breeder will use a cage or have used one and will often sell on the crate, as the puppy is used to it. This is based on the understanding that dogs do not like to mess their beds and in a cage would be forced to sleep in the mess.

Whilst in these confines the puppy will try to control their bladder. Young puppies from 8 weeks or so should last about 8 hours. During housebreaking, leave the pup inside the cage when he cannot be supervised, whilst you are say cooking. Just before to placing him into the crate or taking him out of the crate, take him outside so he can go to the toilet. There should never be any food or water in the cage, just a blanket and perhaps a toy to occupy his time. As time goes by and the puppy performs better, you can leave him more and more out of the cage.

The cage needs to have the right dimensions, enough floor area for him to lie down. But not so large he could urinate in a corner. The crate is essential for the dogs whole life, so to avoid replacing crated as he grows, buy one large enough for his full grown size, with a partition that you can move when needed.

The two alternatives to cage potty training a puppy are constant supervision, which in today’s busy life is too difficult for most people. This involves being with the puppy all the time, so you can be ready when you see his pre-potty pattern, such as sniffing the floor. Then taking him directly to his potty area, then bring him straight back, having him praise and verbal clues such as “good dog”. The pup needs to appreciate why he went outside was for the toilet, nothing else, do not confuse him.

The third alternative to toilet training is put down papers or pre-treated pads, encouraging the pup to use these papers, for practical reasons placed in the bathroom or utility room. The pads have chemicals to draw the pup. When you catch with their pre- potty behavior, pick them up calmly and take them to the papers. Praise them if they do the business. The problem with this method, is you have to transition them to doing this outside, by moving the papers closer to the door.

Toilet timing, generally, puppies need to go out, soon after waking and 30 or 40 mins after having been fed.
Sometimes puppies will spontaneously urinate when scared or excited, sometimes known as submissive urination. Do not punish them for this. If the puppy is liable to this, take them for a walk, before any excitement, like family coming. Or if visiting, take them for a walk, just before, or when you arrive. The puppy will normally grow out it after 4-8 months.

To support the potty training, as in dog training, you should to use verbal clues. Good ones are simple and distinctive. Everybody in the family or in contact with the dog, such as your dog walkers and the pet sitter need to use the same words. One or a maximum of two words.

Outside: For going outside, to go to the potty.

Use another word such as “play” if its for more of a fun activity, though he may go to the toilet when he is there.

Potty: Go to the toilet.
Good Dog: For praise – any.
No: When the puppy is doing anything wrong, such as going in the wrong area, or inside.

Two rules:
1. Always praise success.
2. Do not punish him, if you do not catch him in the act of doing something wrong. He will have no idea why you are punishing him.

If you see the puppy in the act of urinating inside, carry him to the place, will often stop him, as well as reinforcing what he should be doing.

The most trusted dog breeds in the country for many years have been found from American Kennel club breeds, or commonly known as “AKC breeds”. With the increasing interest to have a dog by their side many Americans blindly go for sales shops to buy their pets. This however is not out of the options list provided that the pet shop is well reputed. But isn’t it always better to be assured that you are entrusted to be provided with the best service and quality always? This is why many experts will recommend you to buy your next dog from AKC breeds.
Mustang windscreen windblocker wind deflector windstop

In the AKC breeds all the dogs in various pedigrees and breeds are listed in to several groups. According to these groups the customers can pick their type of dog. This infact is very much appreciated as a huge help for even a beginner to dog petting. This sort of a neatness and systematical approach is seen nowhere else.
BMW Z4 windscreen windblocker wind deflector windstop

The several types of groups available in AKC breeds are the toy group, the working group, the hound group, the sporting group and the non sporting group. In the toy group the majority of dogs fall in to the low built category. These dogs being the nobles amongst all the types are also considered to be expensive than others. These highly fashionable dogs will carry the dignity of the owner. While the toy group being the highly fashionable and minimum active type the working and sporting groups are completely the opposite. Excessive amounts of exercises and faithfulness are the two major qualities of dogs from these two groups. Do not pet them unless you can give them the amount of exercising they need per day. Usually the working groups of dogs are multipurpose dogs. They can be watch dogs, they can love you, care for you, be sad when you are sad and be happy when you are happy, they can play and share the good times with you.
With this kind of a golden opportunity to have a helping hand and such a wonderful place to search for a pet, you are entrusted to make sure to let your pet make a happier future.

The Maltese is a perfect example of the old adage that sometimes the best gifts come in the smallest packages.

When full grown, a Maltese generally weighs in the range of a mere six pounds, but is packed with looks and personality that hook many dog lovers on this breed.

However, this small size is an important factor when considering Maltese puppy training, as is the grooming of the full and beautiful coat of these dogs. If you are considering adding one of this breed to your family, there are other elements that you need to understand about Maltese puppy care as well.

Socialization

Maltese are generally happy, social dogs that enjoy spending time with their families, and become quite devoted to them.

While this breed in usually good with children, the size of the dog makes contact with very small kids a bit risky for the pet. If you decide to bring a Maltese into your family with very young children, make sure that you supervise the time that the two spend together and teach your kids about the proper method of Maltese puppy care with this small and sometimes fragile dog. These dogs will bark when someone comes to the door, making them reasonable watch dogs, but their size and friendliness do not cater to the idea of a guard dog in the least.

Crate Training

Crate training is recommended by many dog care experts today, and small dogs like the Maltese especially do well with this type of environment. Part of your Maltese puppy care should be to select a crate for your dog before you even bring it home with you. A crate should be big enough for the dog to stand up and turn around inside, but not so large that it decides it is okay to potty in its crate. Most dogs will not go to the bathroom in the area that they sleep in, making crate training an effective means for teaching your dog gradual bladder control.

The crate also offers a safe and secure place for your dog to remain when you are not at home. Not only will the crate prevent you from coming home to a soiled carpet or chewed sofa, you also have the peace of mind in knowing that your dog is in a safe place when you are not at home. Most dogs will not have a problem with a crate, as long as you introduce it early in the dog training process.

The Maltese can make a friendly and beautiful addition to the family. With a bit of preparation and research on the best Maltese puppy training, you and your dog will start your life together in a positive direction.

If you have considered the care of a chow chow puppy as an option for having a pet, it’s little surprise. These dogs are quite unique, with tongues that are blue-black and rounded ears. These dogs come in two varieties, a short-haired version, and one with longer hair, which looks as if it has a mane, giving it a very lion-like appearance. People who consider the care of a chow chow puppy often see this dog as a living teddy bear. However, these dogs are quite different from living teddy bears, and it helps to know what it’s like to care for a chow chow puppy before getting one.

Background

Knowing the history of the chow chow is key to understanding why it looks and acts the way it does. This particular breed was made in China and Mongolia, and was bred not for use as pets, but as a dog for hunting and pulling loads, as well as for food and fur. This is why these dogs are smart, durable, and beautiful. Keep in mind that if you’re considering a chow chow puppy training, these dogs were more used as a working breed that just happened to make beautiful pets as well.

Temperament

Please note that among the features listed of a chow chow, cuddliness is not one. For those considering the care of a chow chow puppy, understand that they are dogs that are closer to cats in personality, prone to being aloof. Proper care of a chow chow puppy often requires a one-person household, since these pets often do not take well to attention from a lot of strangers. For those with small children, the kids should be taught that the chow chow doesn’t like having attention forced upon it, as it will act aggressive.

Training

When trying to train and care for a chow chow puppy, you should understand that these dogs often require a patient, firm dog trainer in order to teach them to behave. These dogs are smart and willful, and as a result, need convincing to take part in any training. However, because they are so smart, these dogs will learn quickly once they decide to let themselves be trained.

A Loyal Dog

Even without dog training, however, choosing to care for a chow chow puppy means that you will ultimately end up with a loyal beautiful dog. There’s a bright side to this dog’s personality, and that’s if he feels its family is threatened, a chow chow will aggressively protect the family. Of course, the flip side is that visitors to the house need to take care not to make the dog think this. That said, if you take care to remember the dog’s temperament, to care for a chow chow puppy is a great choice to make.

Getting a new puppy can be a great addition to the family. They are cute and cuddly and everybody loves them. Before bringing that new little furry bundle home, it is important to remember that they are only babies and will require a lot of puppy care.

In many ways puppies are just like babies. They are dependent on you for their existence. They need your help to feed them and teach them the things they need to know since they are the newest member of the family. They love attention so you should be prepared to give them lots of it. You will be rewarded, usually with a clean face.

Feeding your puppy is very important part of puppy care since he is developing bones and muscle as he grows. Feed your puppy food that is formulated for puppies and not adults. Remember that you can’t depend on your puppy to quit eating when he is full. Some will but others will eat until they get sick. Growing puppies should probably eat twice a day but do not let them graze all day.

A very important part of puppy training to you is the house breaking. This requires patience, and usually lots of it. Many puppies will need to go just after they eat so this is a good time to take them out. At other times they will give you some kind of sign, sometimes they sniff around, sometimes they turn around and around before they find their spot. Watching for their sign can tell you when you need to hit the door running with them in tow. They will eventually get the message but not until they have had a few accidents. The key is to not give up and don t get mad at the puppy.

Puppy Care and Puppy Safety

Puppies and children are usually great together but it is never wise to leave small children and puppies together unsupervised. Puppies could get hurt and children could get bit. It is also very important that your new puppy gets all of his shots. Shots are a necessary part of dog training and will help keep you both healthy. Along with shots comes the check for worms, which is something most puppies get but fortunately it is easily treated.

As your new puppy grows you will need to discuss with your vet the best option for flea protection and also heart worm protection. Heart worms are deadly and treatment is expensive and dangerous for the dog.

Puppies grow up to be dogs and many times the care they received as a puppy will determine the temperament they have when they are adults.
