No-one wants fleas in their home, let alone on their dog or cat

So during these warmer months when these itchy little mites seem to come out of hiding, almost out of nowhere it is good to know that there are some natural alternative peventative measures you can take to keep them at bay.

    >> Click here for info on common pet conditions and remedies

Garlic remedy

The first thing you can try for dog or cat flea protection is to add a little garlic to their food at mealtimes, but don’t overdo it because the last thing you want is a happy dog breathing garlic all over you when he gets excited about going out for a walk! Too much garlic could also give him a bit of a poor tummy so use it but go easy on the amount. It is known that fleas, like many insects do not like the smell or taste of garlic and so they will stay away and go get their ‘dinner’ at a ‘better restaurant’ or pet host

Vitamin B

You could also mix some vitamin B in to your pets food, perhaps as an alternative to the more smelly garlic. Just as with humans, vitamin B seems to keep any nasty insects from biting. the best source for this would be Brewer’s yeast tablets, crushed

Herbal mix

You could also try mixing up your own natural flea powder from a choice of herbs which you can then rub into the coat of your cat or dog, working through the hair to the ends.

I would recommend using a combination of yellow dock, fennel and eucalyptus mixed with some rosemary which contains vitamin B6, rue and wormwood.

About a tablespoon of each should be about right. Oil of eucalyptus is a good prevention method which you can rub into your pet’s collar on a regular basis. It definitely smells better than garlic.

Eucalyptus oil works generally as a good natural insecticide and disinfectant.

However be careful that your pet doesn’t lick the oils since it is best not to be ingested

Here are a few more additional sources of information about getting rid offleas naturally

How to treat Your Flea Problem

You can also use food grade diatomaceous earth as a natural flea control agent. This dried sea plankton-based insecticide is both organic and is proven safe to use on most home pets. Apply this on the fur when your pet has dried off.

Natural Techniques On How To Completely Eliminate Fleas

When dealing with flea infestations, you have three areas to control: inside, outside, and your pet. Each of them requires different treatments, but all of them have natural remedies that are efficient and inexpensive alternatives … Certain desiccant dusts and boron-based mixtures can be used on your carpet to kill fleas. These are venomous but far less so than most on the market. Keep children and pets out of the room when you use these and vacuum thoroughly afterwards

Natural Flea and Tick Control for Dogs

One of the safest ways to control a flea and tick outbreak is to use natural wood chips. Bugs hate these chips in general but by adding wood chips around your pets bedding, the fleas and ticks will try to get away.

No matter what breed of cat and no matter how well you look after your cat, like us humans, they will suffer from common cat health problems during the course of their life.

As a cat owner, you will need to be aware of the most common problems, some of which can be avoided with the right awareness and by taking basic precautions.

The most common cat health problems are colds, bite wounds, digestive problems, urinary problems and diarrhea, and eye problems.

Cats are sensitive to many respiratory viruses and infections such as the common cold and like humans they can usually rely on their own immune system to deal with it. However, if your cat is off its food and appears listless and in some distress then you should consult your vet for appropriate medication.

Cats, particularly Tom cats do fight a lot. Often with other cats and sometimes with dogs and more dangerously with the dreaded fox. This can lead to various wounds which will need treatment from a vet to avoid infections setting in. Eyes are particularly vulnerable.

Fleas are also a common cat health problem , especially if your cat is outside a lot. Tapeworm and other parasites are common problems cat health problems too and often cause symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Your vet will have medication to deal with these issues.

Another common cat health problem, mainly associated with Tom cats that have not been neutered, is urinary tract infection. If your cat stops using the litter box, or the urine is particularly strong smelling then these are clear signs and your vet should be consulted without delay.

Although not normally a cat health problem on its own, hairballs or fur balls are very common and can lead to problems under certain circumstances. Cats naturally swallow fur from their constant grooming and although it will normally pass through the cats digestive system, there are times when it gathers into a fur ball and may become lodged in the digestive tract or intestine with serious consequences if not treated quickly. Symptoms are not eating properly, constipation and listlessness. Often a cat will cough up a fur ball if it gets caught in the throat. You can help prevent hairballs or fur balls occurring if you brush your cat regularly.

Feline leukemia used to be a very common cat health problem and was often fatal. These days, however, with modern vaccines available the disease can be prevented. Always have you cat vaccinated if there is a risk of infection because this is a highly contagious disease.

The main message here is to monitor you cat’s health , visit the vet regularly for check ups and take advice from your vet on suitable vaccinations.

Dog UTI

If you are constantly rushing your female puppy to the vet for recurring urinary tract infection (UTI), it would very much help if you know how to spot the symptoms of female puppy UTI before the condition worsens

Cats Fleas – Best Remedy

Second, always try to make it a point that you should vacuum your house regularly, not missing a single spot. Pay close attention to dark and warm places. Make sure you reach all corners, under the sofa, hard-to-reach cupboards

Cats Illness is very bothering for the owner. Here are some tips for cats illness and how to spot them. When you discover cats illness then you should bring your cat to the veterinarian already.
