It is almost impossible to turn on the TV and not see some happy pet wiggling the tail or purring after a delicious meal. And the commercial further encourages us to trust the brand and feed our four-legged friends and make them just as happy as their famous kin! Pet food is certainly an issue if we think of quality, because it is made of dry blood, ground bones and a whole range of additives and chemicals that make it tasty but not healthy. A recent tendency is to use organic pet food as a substitute, and a much healthier variant, so that the animal may truly benefit from good nutrients.

You can order organic pet food on the Internet, or purchase it online. Veterinarians speak in favor of such products because they are balanced thanks to the absence of artificial compounds. Just like in the case of humans, animals get fat or come to suffer from various diseases, as their systems get intoxicated with all the chemical substances added to food for great taste and prolonged freshness. Pets that are not fed on organic pet food grow old at a much quicker pace, they lack vitality and prove more exposed to viruses.

Vomiting, bloating and diarrhea represent the main issues of a digestive acute or chronic ailment that can be traced back to the consume of regular pet food. The metabolism can improve in time if organic pet food becomes the basis for the animal’s daily meals. Improvements have also been registered with the immune functions of pets fed on organic food, because the higher quantity of nutrients thus available, allows the body to create and support the defensive barrier constantly, with low chances of getting exposed to viruses and bacteria. This means that the pet will be happier and healthier, with more vitality than ever.

You can find organic pet food not only for cats and dogs, but also for parrots, tortoises, fish and canaries. Plus, for dogs and cats, you’ll see that food is provided for age groups. Thus, for young animals, the amount of nutrients needs to be larger and in formulas that correspond to the body demands during the intense growth period. Fresh or dry food is both available, but you need to pay attention to the packaging so that the food may be preserved in optimal conditions.

———————————–

Have you recently added a new puppy to your family? If so, you might be stuck for ideas when it comes to building a solid relationship with him. Even if your dog isn’t a new addition, you may sense that your owner/pet relationship could use a bit of tweaking. We’re going to talk about a few tips you can exercise with your fuzzy pal that will help you to generate a trusting and loyal bond.

The first thing you need to understand is that all dogs want to be a part of a pack. It’s a natural way of life for them in the wild and it still holds very constant today—only the pack is your family (or you and the dog if you’re a duo). Dogs want to feel as though they serve a place in the pack, which means hanging out with the family and being included in everyday activities. However, it is very important that your dog understands his position in the pack. If you do not assert your authority as the “leader of the pack,” your dog is likely to assume the role, which can result in very hard-to-handle behaviour. When your dog is clear on the hierarchy of the family, he will respect you, which is a huge part of forming a solid foundation in your relationship. I know this all sounds primitive and even a little cheesy, but it’s very much true!

As I mentioned before, it’s important that you include your dog in everyday activities. Trust is probably the single most important factor in having a good relationship with your dog, so try to make sure that your actions don’t imply any untrustworthiness on your part. Routines are a good way of showing your dog that you’re dependable, as long as you stick to them. Little things like taking your dog out to potty and feeding him around the same time everyday are ways that will help your dog to naturally trust in you. Imagine if you relied upon someone for your food/water and bathroom privileges; if you aren’t given these necessities on a regular and dependable basis, you would never grow to trust your supporter.

Activities are a great way to let your dog feel he is involved in the family. Dogs are naturally playful and sociable, so including them in everyday activities such as chores or playing in the back yard are important. You could also take the time to brush your dog or walk with him every day. Training is an excellent way to bond with your dog as praise and (gentle) correction lets him feel involved. I recommend that you get a set of dog steps and train your dog to use them. Whether he’s a puppy or not, it’s better for his joints than jumping to and from furniture and that added training time will only serve to rekindle your dog’s trust and obedience in you.

The timely diagnosis of disease is an important part of the overall goldfish care. If you can’t readily identify a goldfish disease see your local vet, or pet store.

Fish live by absorbing oxygen and they give off carbon dioxide as a waste product. Plants under the influence of daylight do the opposite so that what is poison to one gives life to the other. Therefore, the addition of plants to your aquarium will assist in keeping your goldfish healthy and free from disease.

Prevention is always easier than cure, so by keeping your aquarium clean, feeding your fish properly, avoiding wide temperature fluctuations and performing partial water changes as necessary you will go a long way to keeping your fish healthy. However, no matter how well you maintain your tank, from time to time one or more of your goldfish may become ill or display signs of stress.

This article covers some of the more common goldfish diseases.

Anchor worms appear as a 1/4 to 3/8 inch piece of string with a forked tail. Large anchor worms can easily be seen. They appear as clear, brownish-red, or greenish-white strings. After the anchor worms have buried themselves into the flesh of the fish open sores may appear on the skin. The anchor worms may be visible in the sores. Frequently this parasite is introduced into the fish tank from aquarium plants ñ especially those taken from creeks or rivers, or from adding live food to the tank. Anchor worms attach themselves beneath the scales of the fish where they bury their anchor-shaped head under the skin causing ulceration and distress.

Anchor worms are highly contagious and should be treated immediately. Your pet store will have a treatment for anchor worm, usually in the form of a gyrase inhibitor that can be added to the water in the tank. This should be effective in killing the parasites within three to four days.

Swimbladder disease should be suspected whenever a fish appears to have difficulty stabilizing itself in the tank. It is not uncommon in goldfish although fancy varieties appear more susceptible to this disease. It can be genetic in origin or caused by a variety of other factors including improper or inadequate diet, bacterial infection or even poor quality aquarium water.

Apart from improving the water condition if that is necessary, some fish keepers suggest feeding your goldfish thawed out frozen peas. It is also worth feeding the fish with sinking food instead of floating food to minimize the intake of air. It may also be worthwhile moving your sick goldfish to a shallow tank while you treat it. This may lessen the stress on the fish. Swimbladder disease can often occur quite suddenly in previously healthy fish.

Dropsy isn’t a specific goldfish disease, but appears as a condition where the fish’s abdomen becomes swollen due to a concentration of fluids in the body tissues or cavities. The abdominal swelling can create a pinecone effect where the fishís scales protrude from the body. The cause of the swelling could be any of several conditions including cancer, internal parasites or bacterial infection, cancer, internal parasites. Depending on what has caused the condition dropsy may be contagious. There are no known successful treatments for dropsy and the condition generally proves fatal.

Frayed or torn fins are usually indications of fin or tail rot if the fish has not been fighting. This is a bacterial infection that first appears as a whitish edge on the fins, before the fins begin to rot away. It is easily treated with antibiotics available from your pet store. Make sure that the medication states that it treats fin or tail rot. In some cases a secondary fungal infection may occur. If this is the case, treat the fin rot before dealing with the fungal problem.

Fungus is generally a secondary infection. A fish with a sore or an open wound caused through injury or disease may suffer from a lack of mucous around the area of the wound. Open wounds like this can often attract a secondary fungal infection. Look for patches of grey or white fuzzy puffs attached to the skin. There are several different treatments available for fungal infections from the pet store. Fungus responds well to quick treatment.

Perhaps the most common parasitic disease in goldfish is ick. It is frequently present in freshwater fish tanks and will infect fish that have suffered recent infection or those in poor general health. Ick is characterized by small white dots that look like salt sprinkled on the body. The fish may attempt to scratch the infected areas on the wall of the tank which can cause further damage. Rapid breathing and cloudy eyes can also be signs of ick. See your pet store for ick treatment. Badly infected fish should be moved to a quarantine tank for treatment but it is important to treat the main aquarium as well to ensure that the parasite has been removed.

Goldfish are actually hardy fish but there are many diseases that can cause them stress and discomfort. If you want your goldfish to live a long and healthy life you must ensure that you manage the aquarium properly and treat sick goldfish immediately that any symptoms appear.

There is a comprehensive and instantly downloadable e-book covering the entire topic of treating goldfish diseases that will help you identify and treat symptoms.

It is their way of asking for attention from living creatures around them.

Grab Your Information On Chinchilla Noises Here

The alarm call is another of the common Chinchilla noises. In their natural habitat, this noise is done by the Chins to alarm their peers of any danger posed by predators like snakes, or birds of prey. When a cat, for instance, comes close to a Chin, the furry animal will make a sequence of blaring cries to alert its owner of the threat posed by the cat.

Chinchillas also make a loud shrill. This noise indicates that the Chin is either in sudden pain, or frightened by external factors. When a person, for example, handles the Chin roughly, the animal will make this sound. This is one of the rare Chinchilla noises, a sound that Chins only make when they are subjected to extreme pain or abrupt fear.

When the animal chatters its teeth, it only means that anything- whether humans or animals, should get out of its way. An annoyed Chin will make warning clicks to warn other living creatures to get out of its path. The Chin may either want to hide or flee after making this type of noise.

Just a Reminder to Grab Your Information On Chinchilla Noises Here

Chins may also make forceful murmur when it is being threatened. This usually happens when a person suddenly picks up the Chin, or when other animals try to get its feed. Chinchilla noises like this can be very annoying and only happens when the Chinchilla is very upset. When the animal makes this sound, it should be left alone by the person or other animals.

Mating call is also another type of noise made by Chinchillas. This noise is described as intermittent murmur, as if the animal has a form of hiccups. This sound will typically last for a few minutes. This sound is usually heard by Chinchillas breeders. A loud squawk can also be heard from infant Chins. This is a way of telling their mothers that they need to be fed.

These are just some of the Chinchilla noises commonly made by these little rodents. Chin owners should learn how to distinguish the sounds so they can better respond to the needs of their pets. Knowing basic noises of Chinchillas will go along way towards having healthy and happy Chins.

What was seen only in children and some adults can now be seen in pets too. Studies show that today, almost one in every four pets suffers from obesity. The reason behind this is their lack of exercise and the consumption of foods that are low of vitamins, minerals and other important anti-oxidants. Many pet owners are unaware that homemade pet food can easily alleviate these problems.

The television may show you hundreds of commercials with pet food on display. These pet foods will be said to have a variety of vitamins and minerals that are good for your pet. But the truth is that there’s nothing more well than your pet receiving a daily intake of homemade pet food. Many conventional types of pet food that is advertised contain added chemical preservatives, sugar, dangerous by-products, etc that are unhealthy for your pet.
Animalerie Sherbrooke
The moment our cat or dog gets sick, many of us are ready to run to the vet and seek help. It doesn’t matter if hundreds of dollars are spent as long as the pet is cured. But why can’t we spend some extra money and get some homemade pet food for them? Keeping them healthy means a good intake of proteins, vitamins and other minerals. Eating pet food purchased from the store could mean that your pet would end up with food allergies, digestive disorders, diabetes, heart disease and other common pet ailments.

Cats and dogs are not like humans who express themselves if they are in trouble. A sick pet might end up in worse conditions if the owner doesn’t notice it. Keeping them healthy and strong is the duty of all pet owners.

If you think your pet is too chubby, feeling lazy or suffering from a disease, take them to the vet and get a check-up done. A proper nutrition plan obtained from the vet will help you in the preparation of the homemade pet food. Since it is you who will be preparing the food, the usage of ingredients can be sorted out to maintain their nutritional plan.

Remember that cats require more protein in their diet than their canine counterparts. Conventional cat foods that are high with carbohydrate can cause your cat to have digestive problems. Overweight cats may end up with feline diabetes. Therefore always give them homemade pet food and keep them healthy and happy.

If you have never owned a puppy before, you might be feeling a little overwhelmed with the sudden responsibility of caring for the wellbeing of your new pal. In this article you will learn about the basic health responsibilities you should attend to and how you can go about doing so.

Your puppy’s diet is first on our list. Puppies are on their mother’s milk until they are about six to eight weeks old. This weaning age is usually when breeders allow the puppies to be taken home by their new owner. Ask your breeder what the pup is currently eating and continue to feed him that. Usually they will be eating a soft canned food mixed with puppy milk replacer. Use less and less milk until your puppy is on pure canned food. You can do the same when switching to dry food by mixing in a little soft food and then cutting back a little each day until the puppy is on dry food only. Dry food is recommended as the best type of food for dogs as it has less fat content and keeps your dog’s teeth strong and free of plaque build up. This should happen gradually over the course of about 7 – 10 days. You should never feed your dog human food (ie: table scraps) at any time during his life. A dog’s diet requires a specific balance of certain nutrients and feeding your dog table scraps will upset this balance. Also remember to keep a water bowl filled for your pup at all times.

The next item on the list is vaccinations. If your dog’s breeder hasn’t taken care of the vaccinations, then it’s up to you to see that your dog gets immunized. There are three separate shots given to cover the “core” illnesses, which are: distemper, parvovirus, and hepatitis. The first shot is usually given at 6 weeks of age with the other shots following in three week intervals at 9 and 12 weeks. Your veterinarian will be able to take care of the vaccinations for you, as well as recommend any non-core vaccines that they feel your dog should have. The importance of non-core vaccines differs depending on your dog’s breed and where you live. You will need to return to the vet every year of your dog’s life for an adult “booster” shot. You should be aware that social interaction with other dogs is not recommended until after your puppy has completed his round of vaccinations, with an additional 5 – 10 days for the immunization to become effective.

Grooming is another important aspect of owning a puppy. Some dogs have stricter grooming requirements than others, particularly ones with long or curly fur. Certain breeds of dog are particularly susceptible to ear infections and require that their ears be cleaned frequently. All dogs should have their nails clipped periodically (usually when you hear their paws click on the floor you know it’s time for a trim!). It’s very important that this is done in the correct fashion using proper canine nail clippers, as cutting to deeply in your dog’s claws can result in severe pain and bleeding.

Last but not least is exercise. Puppies are energetic by nature and need an outlet. Take extra care to spend time playing with your pup and make sure he gets plenty of time outdoors (other than trips to relieve himself!). Boredom can often result in excessive chewing as well as destructive behaviour, so the more time you dedicate to wearing out your spirited companion, the happier he will be! A great exercise trick is to buy dog steps and teach your dog fun games that incorporate running up and down the stairs. Pet stairs are also handy to have around if you allow your dog on the couch or bed so he doesn’t have to jump to and from the furniture.

Does Spot seem to be sporting quite a belly these days? As a dog owner, it can be very easy not to realize a decline in your pet’s health until the damage is already done. Obesity is a very becoming a very real concern for pets and it’s up to us pet owners to do something about it. This article is going to discuss a few tips for recognizing obesity in your dog and how you can help get him back into shape.

You must realize that all dogs require exercise. Whether you have a Pomeranian or a Great Dane, every breed and size of dog must maintain certain levels of activity on a daily basis. Think about your dog’s average day from beginning to finish. If you can’t bring it to mind, keep an eye on him for a few days and write down his usual activities. For my dog, I drew a time line of his average day. In my timeline I wrote down when he woke up, his meal times, his usual trips outside, nap times, etc. This really helps to put into perspective whether your dog is truly lacking exercise or if a change of diet is required.

One important thing to consider is this: does your dog get to spend regular time outdoors aside from potty breaks? If not, this could be a huge clue as to why your dog might not be looking as lean as he ought to be. Dogs love to be outside—it’s natural for them and it’s a good inspiration to be active. If you haven’t been able to take your dog outside in the past, set time aside for him or arrange for a friend or family member to do let him out several times throughout the day. Try to get involved with him when he’s outdoors to encourage him to move around. Throwing his favourite ball or toy around is great, as is a quick jog around the yard. If you aren’t in the best of shape yourself, you and your dog could go to a dog park or on walking trails and both of you can reap the health benefits of walking. This is also great for strengthening the relationship between you and your dog. You can even try getting a set of pet steps to train your dog on. Not only will he get a great workout from going up and down the steps, but being proactive will boost his happiness and confidence.

After you have made your assessment of your dog’s activity level, you might be surprised to find that he gets sufficient exercise but still doesn’t seem to be as lean as he should be. This is a very common scenario among people who feed their dog table scraps or gets a bit too liberal with the doggy treats. Regardless of the fact that human food is a lot more fattening to dogs, it’s also down-right unhealthy for them. A dog’s diet should consist primarily of meat, raw vegetables, and certain types of grain. Could you imagine a dog in the wild snarfing down some spaghetti? If you are guilty of feeding your dog human food—as most of us are—try to cut back on that altogether. If you don’t notice a difference in your dog’s weight, switching to a name brand kibble specifically designed for overweight dogs may be the right solution.

Any time you feel that there could be something amiss with your dog’s health, it’s always best to make an appointment with your dog’s vet to rule out the possibility of an underlying health condition.

If you have a new dog, you might be wondering which pet bed is best. Beds are available in a lot of different sizes, types, styles, fabrics, and the list goes on. Below are several options to think about. These types of beds are even designed in large dog beds.

Orthopedic Dog Beds
These beds are ideal for dogs that have specific health problems such as hip dysplasia, joint trouble or muscle problems. Just like people beds, they are ordinarily made from Swedish foam that molds to the dog’s shape. For people, these beds give just the appropriate amount of support without putting tension on an already sore and aching body. These beds usually come with a guarantee for quality and durability. Slim dogs, such as Greyhounds, can use these beds to stop joint problems on firm beds or floors.

Raised Dog Beds
There is a entirely new subsection of beds that are raised from the ground. In hot climates, the raised bed helps cooling air to move underneath keeping your dog extra comfortable. In cold climates, it raises your pet from a winter cooled ground. Beds that are raised adequately keep your pet out of the reach of most insects, most importantly, fleas, spiders, and earwigs.

Raised dog beds come in a range of models and materials. You can get beds that appear similar to standard furniture and have them match your decoration. The only influential factor is what you desire your bed to accomplish. The raised beds are not recommended for pets with minor or critical health problems.

Heated Dog Beds
A lot of the time, dogs get cold even if they have fur. If you have your dog sleeping on a balcony, in the garage, or outside, you may want to consider a heated bed. Just like an electric blanket, they plug into the wall and keep your dog warm and snug. These will in addition help out if your pet is recovering from an injury or if he is older and wants added assistance to relax his muscles. Now you do not have to worry about your outdoor dogs being cold at bedtime.

Crate Pads
You can make crates more snug by putting a soft crate pad inside the crate. Many crates are just wire or plastic, and you wouldn’t want to lay on that. Neither does your pet. Crate pads are made to fit inside a crate and are frequently made from easily washable material. Your dog’s crate shouldn’t be like a prison dwelling. It should be a space for rest and relaxation. If you use your crate as your dog’s escape, a bed makes it a comfortable place to hide out.

Travel Beds
If you travel a great deal and you do not want to haul along your dog’s regular bed, this is your way out. A travel bed is comparable in many ways to the bed you have at home, but it is made to collapse or fold up easily. Just how children need there pacifiers or blankets, pets want there dog beds for a since of safety. Let your pet use the dog bed while he is at home so that he become familiar with the bed. When you get to your destination every night, your pet doesn’t feel tense by a new sleeping situation.

Let me tell you a story about urinary incontinence in dogs. Jane Smith’s beloved old pet has suddenly started dribbling urine.Urine puddles are showing up all over the house. The fur on her dog’s bottom is wet from the constant dribbling, and the odor is overwhelming. She fears the worst, thinking that there is no cure for urinary incontinence in dogs. She’s afraid that her beloved friend can’t be helped.

Why Is My Older Dog Incontinent?

There are many causes for this condition.Old dog incontinence is usually caused by either a bladder infection or a weak bladder sphincter.

Bladder infections in dogs are a leading cause of old dog incontinence, especially in females. Your vet may want to do a urine culture to make sure it’s an infection and determine what’s causing it. Most urinary tract infections in dogs are cause by E. coli or staph, although sometimes they can be caused by a yeast infection.

A weak bladder sphincter is common in large female dogs that have been spayed and in older male dogs. The muscles in the sphincter relax, either due to hormone imbalance or advancing age.

How Does Your Vet Treat Urinary Incontinence In Dogs?

Bladder infections in dogs are normally treated with antibiotics. Your dog will usually show an improvement within a few days, although it’s important to finish the entire course of antibiotics. If your dog was incontinent due to a bladder infection, the problem should go away quickly.

A weak bladder sphincter may be treated with hormone therapy. Females receive DES (diethylstilbestrol), while males are treated with testosterone. Your vet may want to try a drug that acts on the nerves in the muscles of the sphincter to help it close better. This drug can be used in combination with hormone therapy too.

The treatments your vet has are very effective, but side effects are always a possibility.Antibiotics wipe out all the bacteria in the body, both beneficial and harmful. What this means is that your dog could develop another bladder infection as soon as the antibiotics are finished.

Hormone treatments are ongoing and can be expensive, while the medication used for the sphincter nerves can cause irritability, appetite suppression, and blood pressure changes.

Prescription drugs treat the symptoms, but don’t address the causes of the problem.

What Happened To Jane’s Dog?

Jane took her dog to the vet for a check-up and found that a weak bladder sphincter was causing the problem. Jane started out giving her dog hormone treatments, along with the prescription medication mentioned above. However, the therapy was expensive, and she was very worried about side effects on her old friend.

Jane started researching herbal and homeopathic remedies for bladder problems in dogs. She learned that herbal and homeopathic remedies for urinary problems work just as well on pets as they do on people. Jane decided to try a natural remedy, and found that it was safe and effective, with no worries about side effects.

Are you struggling with the problem of old dog incontinence? What’s stopping you from trying a natural remedy for your dog with bladder problems?
Taking care of hooves is a vital part of looking after your horses health. Ideally you should check your horses hooves every day, and minimum twice each week. You will be able to become very familiar with what is normal and what isn’t, and be able to to spot any issues that might be starting.

Following this simple list might assist you in your daily practices.

1. Approaching your horse ensure the symmetry is releatively close, they don’t have to be exactly equal, but very close to being the same size and form.

2. Carefully examine for faults in the hoof wall and coronary band. Lift up each hoof, run your palm along the exterior of the wall to pickup any impairments. Apply the exact technique for the coronary band and then squeeze it softly. Using these two procedures will also highlight soft spots and damp holding areas.

3. Examine the sole. Examine the colour of each hoof. If correct they should be similar in colouration. A clearly delineated dark spot will indicate bruising or puncture wound.

4. Look at and compare the frogs. The two front hooves should be of similar proportions and shape, the same applies to the back hooves. You should lightly press each frog with your hoof pick, in most areas, apart from the desert areas, it should be slightly spongy.

5. If already shod, grasp the shoe and see if it moves. Check for lost clinches, if loose you may opt to take off it in case your horse loses it by itself and perhaps removes a piece of hoof with it.

If you continuously check each hoof, you will be able to avoid a great deal of issues by catching the problem before it worsens.

I would recommend you include into your hoof cleaning routiene a couple of quick steps. Use your hoof pick from heel to toe. If packed solid you will probably need to loosen it up a bit before it can be removed. Once the material is removed, check all the areas of the hoof and be positive that there is not a bad odour as this is normally a clear cut sign of thrush. Be certain there are no rocks or stones stuck anywhere, particularly underneath the shoe.

Your horses hooves should display a natural sheen on the wall of the hoof.

If you find a smooth uniform surface free of cracks, rings, depressions, flares and a concave sole which touches the horseshoe, then you should be confident that your horses hooves are in good condition.
